Communities nationwide are facing a variety of common challenges—ranging from a wave of retiring business owners and lack of access to capital for business startups to the affordable housing crisis and limited access to affordable, nutritious foods. Many state and local elected officials are recognizing the power of the cooperative business model and including cooperatives as policy solutions to these challenges. This panel of state and local policymakers will discuss a variety of policies that empower people to use cooperatives to have a greater stake in the places they live, businesses where they work or services they use.
