NCBA CLUSA’S EFFORTS TO CONNECT SMALL-SCALE FARMERS IN EAST TIMOR AND U.S. CONSUMERS HIGHLIGHTED

Did you know that in developing countries there are 450 million small-scale farmers, many of whom are organized as cooperatives, and that there are 80 million consumers buying $150 billion in goods from retail food cooperatives? NCBA CLUSA’s work in East Timor is highlighted in an article by the U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council in celebrating the contribution of cooperatives to enhancing food security through nutrition led agriculture.

The article indicates that less than one percent of U.S. consumer food co-op sales come from products imported from small farmer cooperatives in developing countries.
