If so, we invite you to apply for the Chief of Party (COP) role for an anticipated USAID-funded project in Mozambique.
The ideal candidate will possess significant leadership, management, and international development experience; a demonstrated track record in managing biodiversity/environmental conservation programs; solid professional reputation successfully managing USAID projects and private sector relations; and experience successfully implementing USAID contracts or cooperative agreements.
About the Project
This 5-year initiative aims to empower communities to unlock the benefits of living in nature while safeguarding Mozambique’s rich biodiversity. The project will:
- Enhance the sustainable management of key biodiversity conservation areas.
- Support communities in generating nature-based revenue.
- Mitigate the destruction of natural resources and habitats.
- Catalyze economic and community benefits across conservation areas, buffer zones, and biodiversity corridors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides overall strategic, technical, and programmatic leadership to the project to ensure its success based on donor-agreed benchmarks, and throughout the project life cycle.
- Provide overall technical vision, leadership, and oversee the design and implementation of project activities.
- Lead internal and external project planning and reporting, including annual work planning with sub recipients.
- Work closely with NCBA CLUSA Headquarters to ensure high-quality communications and periodic reporting.
- Serve as the primary representative of the project to USAID, relevant government entities, partners, and other implementers and stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, biodiversity conservation, environmental sciences/management, natural resource management, climate adaptation, economics, or other related fields. A Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrated expertise and a minimum of 10 years of experience in development working and managing field-based projects/activities. At least five years of COP, or Deputy COP, or equivalent supervisory experience and expertise in technical areas of biodiversity conservation, integrated rural development, resilience and livelihoods. Management experience in large, complex biodiversity conservation projects preferred.
- Minimum of six years supervising technical and support staff in international development – ideally in southern Africa, with Mozambique experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with government counterparts in the cooperating country, USG donors, and other key stakeholders and partners.
- Ability to successfully recruit, train, build capacity, motivate and manage staff, consortium partners, and/or sub-partners.
- Ability to negotiate and manage agreements and all required programmatic and financial reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of USAID contract rules and regulations.
- Proven ability to produce results in challenging contexts and the capacity to effectively deal with and resolve conflict.
- Excellent communication (both oral and written), analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills.
- Demonstrated ability of building strong teams and collaboration across organizations, sectors, and cultures.
- Proficiency using MS Windows and MS Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and Web Conferencing Applications.
