ABOUT THE Food for Progress (FFPr) Programs:
NCBA CLUSA is excited to announce multiple vacancies for Food Safety, Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Experts to work on the Food for Progress (FFPr) Programs funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) across Africa.
The FFPr Programs aim to modernize and strengthen agricultural sectors in developing countries and emerging democracies. The principal focus of the 2024 Program is to improve food security, promote climate-smart agriculture, and enhance the trade-enabling environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
⢠Bachelorâs Degree in Agriculture, Food Safety, Plant Health, or related field. Masterâs degree preferred.
⢠Prior experience supporting the drafting and/or implementation of SPS standards and regulations.
⢠Familiarity with strategies for ensuring compliance with SPS regulations and enforcement mechanisms, including inspections and audits.
⢠In-depth knowledge of food safety principles, including hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), foodborne pathogens, food additives, and food labeling regulations.
⢠Understanding of trade facilitation measures, including import and export documentation, certification processes, and customs procedures related to SPS measures in the East/Southern Africa region, Madagascar and/or Tanzania experience preferred.
⢠Must be willing to travel as needed to perform inspections, audits, and provide training.
⢠Proficiency in laboratory techniques for analyzing food, animal, and plant samples to detect contaminants, pathogens, and pests.
⢠Expertise in conducting risk assessments for foodborne diseases, pests, and contaminants that may affect human, animal, or plant health. This includes quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methodologies.
⢠Knowledge of how SPS measures can impact the environment, including ecosystems and biodiversity.
⢠Closely monitor processing operations in various food production environments, including packhouses and processing plants
⢠Demonstrated expertise in food safety and sanitary/phytosanitary regulations for international trade, especially in the context of Madagascar and/or Tanzania.
⢠Fluency in English and French.
