Power Africa, the U.S. Government’s strategy for supporting energy development in Africa, is undergoing a strategic shift and looking to America’s electric cooperatives as a model for developing Africa’s energy grid.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s International arm has been working with Power Africa since the strategy launched in 2013. As the program evolves to focus on distribution and transmission—in addition to its original goal of power generation—rural electric co-ops provide a historical example of how to distribute power to rural places.
