A collaboration of more than 100 credit unions and business partners is celebrating $8 million in donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids since 2002. Contributing to that milestone, a check of more than $580,000 will be presented ahead of the group’s Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and its west coast counterpart, the Credit Union SacTown Run. A press release from the Credit Union Family of Races follows:

The Credit Union Family of Races will present a $580,485 donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) on April 2, coinciding with its Washington, D.C.-based Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® and the Credit Union SacTown Run in Sacramento, California. More than $102,000 of that check has been raised, so far, from runners, their families and friends. Since credit unions became the title sponsors in 2002, the sector has donated just over $8 million to CMNHs nationwide.

As of March 25, 190 Members of Congress have signed on to be honorary race chairs of the events representing 44 states, American Samoa, Washington, D.C. and Guam.

Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

The 45th Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run will take place Sunday, April 2, starting at 7:30 a.m. on the Washington Monument Grounds in Washington, D.C. The race course is a fast, flat route around the iconic memorials in the nation’s capital. According to the Washingtonian Magazine, the race is on the “bucket list” of things to do in Washington, D.C. There is also a 5K Walk-Run on April 2 and a Kids’ Run on April 1.

The check will be presented at a kick-off press conference at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, in Room HVC 201 in the Capitol Visitor Center. A patient family will be on hand to receive the check, along with representatives from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The check will also be presented at the Saturday, April 1 Kids’ Run at the National Building Museum. Dr. Bear from Children’s National will greet the patient family and hundreds of kids, ages 5 – 12, who are participating in the half-mile fun run. Activities begin around 8:30 a.m. with a fitness playground, and the first age-group wave goes off at 9:30 a.m.

Congressional Federal Credit Union and U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union sponsor the annual Cherry Blossom Capitol Hill Competition, the race within the larger Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. House and Senate offices form teams to compete for the Capitol Hill Cup. The team with the best race time wins the cup to display in its office. Five hundred and forty congressional staffers are running in what’s known as the “Runner’s Rite of Spring.”

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is sponsored by Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. in partnership with co-lead partners, CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU.

Credit Union SacTown Run

The 7th Annual Credit Union SacTown Run will take place Sunday, April 2, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California. More than 1,500 participants are expected at the event, which features a 10-mile race, the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Miracle Mile Fun Run and Fitness Walk and a 5K. New this year is the “Homemade-Half Challenge”—a combination of the 5K and 10-miler—for those interested in running a half-marathon.

The check will be presented at a press conference on Friday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital in Sacramento, followed by a tour of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. A CMN Kids Race and Medal Ceremony will be held at UC Davis Children’s Hospital at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30.

The Credit Union SacTown Run is sponsored by credit unions and related businesses in California and Nevada, including the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.

Family of Races

Since becoming the title sponsors of races in 2002, a collaboration of over 100 credit unions and business partners and CUSOs has donated just over $8 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country, under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is an alliance of premier children’s hospitals that treat 10 million critically ill children annually, regardless of ability to pay.

Credit unions and their business partners can still support the Family of Races benefitting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by becoming a sponsor. Learn more at www.miracleday.org.
