The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) will operate under a new name as of January 1, 2017âthe National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unionsâto reflect that all the associationâs federally-insured members now have full voting rights and the ability to serve on the NAFCU Board of Directors.
âWhile our name change reflects our mission to serve all federally-insured credit unions, our focus remains the same,â said NAFCU Chair Richard L. Harris, president and CEO of Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union. âWe remain committed to providing the best in advocacy, education and compliance assistance at the federal level.”
The NAFCU Board voted unanimously to change the associationâs name. NAFCUâs logo and acronym will stay the same, preserving the associationâs strong brand recognition.
In September, NAFCUâs membership approved the boardâs unanimous recommendation to amend the associationâs articles of incorporation to give federally-insured, state-chartered members full membership and to reinforce NAFCUâs focus on credit union issues at the federal level.
NAFCU will continue to advocate for credit unions at the federal level, with a focus on obtaining regulatory relief for the industry from NCUA, CFPB and other regulators.
The National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions is the only national trade association focusing exclusively on federal issues affecting the nationâs federally-insured credit unions. NAFCU membership is direct and provides credit unions with the best in federal advocacy, education and compliance assistance.
