On July 1, cooperatives from all around the world will celebrate the 101th International Day of Cooperatives. United by the slogan “Cooperatives for Sustainable Development,” the emphasis day will show how cooperative businesses around the world—inspired by their shared values and principles—are hardwired to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
An urgent call to action, the 17 SDGs range from gender equity and reduced inequity to climate action and affordable clean energy—goals cooperatives tackle every day.
“Cooperatives have a model that focuses on people and planet, and have been demonstrating it for more than 200 years,” said Ariel Guarco, President of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), which leads #CoopsDay celebrations.
