In honor of the 2024 Women’s History Month theme of “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion,” Everything Co-op concludes its commemoration by interviewing Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard, professor at John Jay College and a social justice advocate. Dr. Gordon Nembhard and Vernon will recognize women cooperators working to improve diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Author of Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice (2014) and a 2016 inductee into the Cooperative Hall of Fame, Dr. Gordon Nembhard is a professor at John Jay College, City University of New York. She is a political economist specializing in cooperative economics, community economic development, racial wealth inequality and Black Political Economy. She is also a member of NCBA CLUSA’s Cooperative Economics Council, the International Cooperative Alliance’s Committee on Cooperative Research, an affiliate scholar with the Centre for the Study of Co-operatives, University of Saskatchewan, and a past board member of the Association of Cooperative Educators.
