Juan Buchenau is Senior Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank (WB), a core member of the global agricultural finance team and part of WB’s Community of Practice on Cooperative Financial Institutions, where he works on policy diagnostics and design. Juan previously oversaw several programs in support of financial sector authorities to improve access to finance in Latin America and the Caribbean. Before joining World Bank, he was the Executive Vice President of an American microfinance institution serving immigrants and their families. Prior to that, he was lead advisor of the German consulting firm IPC/Procredit, helping commercially oriented microfinance banks in Latin America, Africa and Eastern Europe expand their services for small farmers and MSMEs. For several years, he managed a program to support a multi-purpose small farmers’ cooperative in Mexico.
Mr. Buchenau has a master’s degree from University of Hohenheim (Germany).
