Mario Vega is a Risk and Audit Manager for Guadalupe Credit Union in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As a Risk and Audit Manager, Mario is responsible for translating regulations into policy and leading his Risk Management team of five, which include Compliance, Internal Audit, BSA and Quality Control.

As a proud CUDEā„¢ graduate, Mario has been using the cooperative model by identifying new methods, sharing ideas with other credit unions and creating inclusive policies that foster Guadalupe Credit Unionā€™s mission: ā€œproviding financial empowerment within the communities we serve.ā€

For the past four years Mario has been providing voluntary compliance/audit assistance to small credit unions in Northern New Mexico with assets ranging from $2M to $23M. Marioā€™s work has been recognized by state regulators for providing guidance and assistance to smaller credit unions. As a development educator he has traveled to Kenya to learn and discuss with African Credit Union (SACCO) leaders about the region’s development issues.

Mario is an International Business/Finance graduate from New Mexico State University, a Development Educator graduate, a Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) and Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor (CCUIA). Mario is currently attending CUNA Management School in Madison and is expected to graduate in summer 2022. Mario lives in Santa Fe, a small mountain town nestled on the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico.
