Every year, International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated on the first Saturday of July, a date that this year falls on July 5. This day serves as a global opportunity to recognize the unique ways cooperatives are building a better world.

First commemorate in 1923 by the International Cooperative Alliance, and officially recognized by the United Nations in 1995, #CoopsDay highlights how co-ops empower people, strengthen communities and advance the values of democracy, solidarity and sustainability.

Today, cooperatives are recognized as a vital part of the economy, providing millions of jobs and serving as a model for democratic governance and social responsibility.

Follow us on social media to keep up with our #CoopsDay posts this weekend (we’re @NCBACLUSA across platforms). Then, on July 25, be sure to join us for this month’s Year of Co-ops Social Media Takeover.

As we approach #CoopsDay, let’s take the time to reflect on the impact of cooperatives in our lives and communities. Together, we can amplify the message of cooperation and solidarity, encouraging more people to join in this movement that emphasizes mutual aid and collective benefit.
