2017 International Credit Union Day Theme Announced

The World Council of Credit Unions last week announced the 2017 International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme—Dreams Thrive Here—celebrating the spirit of the global credit union movement. ICU Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October since 1948 and will take place this year on October 19, 2017.

“ICU Day is the opportunity to encourage credit union members to get engaged, share their experiences and celebrate how credit unions and financial cooperatives have made an impact on their life choices. By placing people before profit, we defend the credit union and cooperative financial institution model worldwide,” said Brian Branch, World Council president and CEO.

This year’s ICU Day theme illustrates how credit union and other financial cooperatives serve as catalysts to make different professions, personal choices and career paths a reality. The hand-illustrated poster was designed by a Madison, Wisconsin artist who belongs to a design and printmaking cooperative.

Through ICU Day festivities worldwide, credit unions raise awareness through outreach, volunteering in the community and organizing contests, charitable fundraisers and open houses—ultimately contributing to the World Council’s Vision 2020 goal of adding 50 million new members by the year 2020.

Official ICU Day graphics and posters in English and Spanish are available for download at International Credit Union Day. Promotional materials and other tips to create unique, memorable member experiences to help celebrate ICU Day will soon be available. Credit union and financial cooperative representatives and members everywhere are encouraged to share photos, events and experiences on Facebook and Twitter using #ICUDay.

ICU Day falls during Co-op Month – October every year. For more Co-op Month events, special day celebrations and themes check out www.coopmonth.coop
