Beginning in early August, Congress will return home for an extended District Work Period where members and their staff will focus directly on outreach to their constituents. This includes visiting local businesses and organizations, hosting town hall meetings, and spending time hearing and learning from people in their districts.
For co-ops, this is a great opportunity to connect with your Member of Congress and invite them to visit your co-op!
NCBA is sharing our new At-Home Advocacy: Connecting Policymakers to Co-ops, a guide to help equip co-ops with practical tools and guidance to engage directly with Members of Congress and their offices. This guide is designed to expand cooperative advocacy beyond annual Washington, DC fly-ins and support sustained, relationship-based engagement with federal policymakers throughout the year.
The guide outlines key steps to a successful meeting, such as identifying the appropriate district contacts, requesting meetings, determining timing and selecting meeting formats. It includes common talking points tied to current federal priorities and cooperative impact. A practical template for meeting requests, a sample schedule and metrics for success are included, as well.
