For 109 years, the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) has united Americans who use cooperatives to build resilient businesses, thriving communities and a better world. Weâve advocated for policies that enable more people to use co-ops to capture economic opportunities, while raising public awareness of the cooperative difference.
And since 1953, weâve equipped millions of people around the world with the tools they need to build sustainable, shared prosperity. Our development work in nearly 100 countries and here in the U.S. has introduced cooperative solutions to hunger, education, affordable housing, dignified work and other global challenges. Our advocacy work kept these investments top-of-mind in the halls of Congress.
But our work to develop, advance and protect cooperatives is under threat. The sudden, unexpected termination of most of our foreign and domestic projects previously funded by the U.S. Government gutted our development work, cutting half our annual revenue overnight.
Weâve responded swiftly and responsibly, making the hard decision to downsize staff, close offices and restructure for sustainability. But this moment demands more than cuts. It calls for investment.
That’s why at our 2025 Annual Membership Meeting last month, we launched the NCBA Sustain and Grow Campaign. Every dollar donated through this fundraising campaign helps NCBA sustain our core team and operations during this transition; pivot to a new, more resilient and diversified business model; and build a stronger, more innovative association that continues to develop, advance and protect cooperativesâat home, and around the world.
Casey Fannon, CEO and president of National Cooperative Bank (NCB), who spoke at the launch, announced that NCB had given $500,000 to the campaign and urged other cooperatives to follow the bank’s lead. “I encourage all of you to support your association through the NCBA Sustain and Grow Campaign and, in doing so, help yourself and each other,” Fannon said. “It’s through our collective voice that we can influence positive change and protect what we already have.”
