The League is dedicated to supporting credit unions across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia, helping them succeed so they can better serve the people who own them. Across its four-state footprint, The League represents 378 credit unions and 33.6 million consumer-members.
The League’s current chapter began with a milestone in cooperative collaboration. In late 2024, members of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates and the Virginia Credit Union League voted to consolidate, with the official launch of The League occurring in January 2025, under the leadership of Samantha A.M. Beeler and Steve Willis. One year later, The League remains focused on strengthening its cooperative network and deepening its impact. Joining NCBA is a natural extension of that commitment.
“Credit unions don’t exist in isolation,” said Tobi Weingart, Senior Vice President of Member and Industry Engagement. “By joining NCBA, we’re aligning with the broader cooperative movement to elevate our impact and better represent our members at the national level.”
Advocacy sits at the center of The League’s work, elevating credit union priorities with lawmakers and regulators while creating meaningful opportunities for leaders to engage directly in the policy process. Each year, The League convenes credit union advocates through its state Advocacy Summits. Virginia’s 2026 Advocacy Summit took place in Richmond January 20-22. Planning is underway for similar summits in Georgia, Florida and Alabama coming later in February.
The League brings Principle 6, or “cooperation among cooperatives,” to life by creating meaningful opportunities for credit unions to learn and work together. Through its Office of Small Credit Unions, The League connects smaller institutions with peer networks, tailored resources and shared expertise, strengthening operations through collaboration. The League also brings leaders together through immersive peer-learning experiences, such as the 2025 Pacific Northwest Credit Union Learning Journey, a five-day program that convened credit union executives and system leaders to explore innovation, leadership and collaboration across Washington State.
Together, these efforts demonstrate how cooperation drives greater impact. In every state it serves, The League continues to show that when cooperatives work together, the entire movement is stronger.
