(WASHINGTON, DC)—NCBA CLUSA has recently been awarded $2.4 million by the United States Agency for International Development to extend its successful Yes Youth Can! (YYC) program in the Coastal Province and in Nairobi County through August 2014. This 10-month extension of YYC programmatic activities will consolidate the positive results already obtained in relation to empowering youth, and will lead to more sustainable youth organizations, increased levels of youth advocacy, improved livelihoods, and higher levels of participation by women in leadership roles.

NCBA CLUSA will continue to oversee the management of YYC Investment and Grant funds, which will be available through SACCO’s (Credit Unions) in both the Coast and Nairobi, to support YYC’s Livelihood Opportunity activities.

The overall goal of the project extension is to increase the sustainability of county boards to provide youth-led services to their members; empower an increasing number of young women to express their voice and improve their livelihoods; provide young businesspeople the opportunity to invest strategically in livelihoods through youth-led grant and investment funds; and cement long-term partnerships with entities in both the private and public sector that can serve as technical resources to youth after the current project has concluded.
