TESA Collective, a co-op publisher of activist board games for creating a better world, has started a Kickstarter campaign for a new cooperative board game. STRIKE! The Game of Worker Rebellion is described as a, “beautifully-illustrated board game for 2 – 4 players about building a city-wide rebellion to stop a mega-corporation’s takeover.” The game is a collaboration between TESA Collective and Jobs with Justice, a leading labor rights organization. The campaign for the board game, which creators describe as a “completely and unabashedly a pro-labor rights game,” arrives, ironically, at a time when Kickstarter employees are in the middle of their own harsh union drive. In this article published by VICE, author Lauren Kaori Gurley highlights the struggles between Kickstarter leadership and union workers.
Gurley writes, “It’s hard to ignore the similarities between the objectives of a dystopian board game about worker rebellion under monopoly capitalism, and Kickstarter employees’ own struggle to unionize. The ironies have not been lost of the game’s creators: The two groups behind the game, the TESA Collective and Jobs With Justice, have expressed solidarity with Kickstarter’s union.”
