The event features keynote speaker Courtney Moran, executive director of the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation. Her message, “The Importance of Cross-Sector Collaboration Between Credit Unions and Other Cooperatives” is expected to highlight the continuing need for cooperation among cooperatives.
The Austin Co-op Talk comes just a week after the Austin City Council approved a resolution drafted by the Austin Cooperative Business Association (ACBA) to foster cooperative solutions for affordable housing, quality jobs and local food production and distribution in the city.
A panel discussion addressing the status of cooperative growth in Austin will feature Charlie Agar, executive director of HomeCare Foundation; Evan Autry, director of Legislative Affairs for Texas Electric Cooperatives; and Nicole Renaux, business team member and board staff liaison for Black Star Co-op, the world’s first cooperative brewpub. A networking lunch will follow the event, catered by Wheatsville Food Co-op, the only retail food cooperative in Texas. Wheatsville has served the central Austin community since 1976.
