Tune in to WOL 1450 AM, 95.9 FM and WOL Livestream on June 8 at 10:30 am EDT for Everything Co-op, hosted by Vernon Oakes. This week Dr. Jasmine Jackson, Co-Executive Director at the National Black Food and Justice Alliance, and Shantae J. Edwards, Start.co-op‘s Entrepreneur Community Lead, will discuss Black food sovereignty and Start.coop’s AARP-sponsored Spring Accelerator Graduation Showcase.

Dr. Jasmin Jackson is an applied food systems research and policy-based specialist. She partners with academic research teams, anchor institutions, philanthropic foundations, and community-based organizations to identify root causes of and develop innovative solutions to food system challenges. Dr. Jas received her master’s degree in Community Planning from Auburn University and her Ph.D. in Integrative Public Policy and Development from Tuskegee University. Dr. Jackson believes that your zip code should not determine your food system.

Shantae Edwards will talk about Start.coop’s newest graduating cohort and share some of these entrepreneurs’ awesome stories. Generously sponsored by AARP, the Spring Accelerator Graduation Showcase will be held on June 8 and will showcase the work cohort participants are doing at the forefront of the cooperative movement and across the economy. Each of the co-ops in this cohort is founded by an entrepreneur over the age of 50, and they represent a wide range of industries from gig work to home care and everything in between.

A weekly exploration of the impact and potential of the cooperative business model, Everything Co-op aims to generate interest in and support for the cooperative movement. Everything Co-op is hosted by Vernon Oaks, produced by Pat Thornton and sponsored by National Cooperative Bank.
